Beach Days 4-6

Day 5/Wednesday: Micah's Birthday

Micah turned 35 today. I asked him if he felt any older and he said he feels old every morning when he tries to get out of bed. I love making fun of the fact that he is an "old man" and I am not. We took Emma Kathryn to the beach. She had a great time for a while but it didn't take long for her to get tired and fussy.
I brought her inside she fell asleep. We both took a really long nap. I think we slept about 3 hours. At home she usually takes a long nap each afternoon but she hasn't had one since we were here. I think it was just much overdue. After our nap we ate birthday cake that Mom and Coach got for Micah. It was really good. Then it was time to go to supper. I called on Monday and got me and Micah reservations at the Greg Norman Australian Grill. It was excellent. We went at 8:30 for supper and then shopped at Barefoot Landing before coming back home. I missed Emma Kathryn terribly but it was nice to have a little time alone as well.
Day 5/Thursday: Shopping
Mom, Coach, Granny and Papa left today going home.
We stayed inside and helped them get packed up and then we got ready and went to the outlets shopping. Emma Kathryn enjoyed riding in the stroller (as long as we kept moving). We found her some cute sandals and some cute boots for winter. We also got her a Halloween Costume. After shopping we came back to the condo. It started storming as soon as we got back so we stayed inside a while and watched peoples tents blow down the beach, thankful we didn't have ours out there. Once the storm passed we put EK in the stroller and went walking down the beach. Not far from our condo is a peer and we had planned to stop there but on the other side of the peer is a part of undeveloped beach. It was so pretty. We kept walking and found a bunch of pretty shells. There were no condos there and the water was very calm. Instead of waves crashing in in was almost like a lake. The water was very shallow so Micah just pushed her around in the stroller through the water. She loved it. We found some very interesting shells. When we got back to the condo Micah went and picked up some steamed shrimp and Me and Lindsey took Emma Kathryn to the pool. She enjoyed it for a while. She splashed, laughed and played.

After a while we took her inside, gave her a bath and she was out for the night.

Day 6/Friday: Lazy Day
It's our last day on the beach. Emma Kathryn and I got up early and went to the beach. Micah was still in the bed so I just put her hat on and went out. We didn't stay out long due the the sun because I didn't have the tent to put her under. After we came back inside we had breakfast and then she went back to sleep. Micah stayed inside with her and Lindsey and I went out to get some sun. We decided not to drag out the tent because it was really hot and Micah stayed inside with EK. While we were laying on the beach we had a shark encounter. There was a shark that came swimming down the beach. It was about 3 1/2 feet long and it was so close to the shore that when the waves went out it would get stuck in the sand. It swam down the beach to the left for a while and then turned and came back our direction. I had seen people catch sharks while fishing from the beach but had never seen one swimming this close. Later in the afternoon Lindsey went back to the room and kept Emma Kathryn and Micah came to the beach with me. We stayed about an hour and then went up to get ready for dinner. We went back to Barefoot Landing and ate at Joe's Crab Shack.

(this is the size bib Emma Kathryn always needs, haha)

Lindsey and I shared a steamed bucket. It was really good. They gave us a bib that I didn't intend on wearing but it wasn't but a few minutes and I had it on. Crab Legs are so messy but delicious. When we got back to the beach we took family pics. Emma Kathryn did pretty good. It is very hard to get a 4 month old to look at the camera. She was to busy taking in her surroundings to bother with pictures.

Unfortunately all good things must end and we had to go in to pack.

Day 7/Saturday: Going Home

We got up early to get everything packed up. I just thought we were packed to the gills on the way to the beach. I should of taken a pic of the car. It was unreal. We left with 5 people and a baby and came back with 3 people and a baby. You would think this would mean more room. WRONG. Since Granny and Papa went home with mom we had to bring home mom's towels, beach bag and the tent we bought. Mark and Kristi are lifesavers for letting us use the Suburban. Emma Kathryn did great on the way home. She slept most of the way. The few times she got fussy we were able to calm her down pretty quickly. It took us about 9 1/2 hours to get home. There was a ton of traffic leaving the beach and the we got stuck in construction in Atlanta. Thankfully we made it home safely, got everything unpacked and are now ready for bed. Our vacation was wonderful and I can't wait until our next adventure.

Beach Days 1-3

Day 1/Saturday: Travel
She actually did well. I thought she would cry the entire way but she surprised me. Micah had to work a while before we could leave. We finally left Cordova at about 12:00. We had to stop in Adamsville due to a dirty diaper and so we grabbed lunch there and were on our way.
We gained 2 extras to go with us. Granny and Papa Wallace went with us as well as Aunt Lindsey. Thank goodness Mark and Kristi let us use the Suburban. We were packed to the gills. Going on vacation with a baby is like moving. We made to within 1 1/2 hours to the condo and she got upset. We stopped at a Cracker Barrel hoping to eat and get her to sleep but it didn't work so after dinner we just hit the road again. Needless to say she was ticked the rest of the way. Micah, Lindsey and I have had many screaming road trips so it didn't bother us but it killed Granny and Papa. I thought they were going to kill me before we reached the condo. Papa thought we should just get her out of the car seat and I said no way was that happening. Granny tried to get her calmed down but it just made her scream harder. To top it off Garmin got us lost. When we typed in the condo address it didn't take us there so we had to call Mom. Her and coach were already here so I thought they could give us better directions. WRONG. Instead they are on there way back from Walmart so they stoped to wait on us. You would think she would stop at an easy to find location. Instead she called and said they were waiting for us at McDonalds. How many McDonalds do you think we have passed? A million. We couldn't even find the beach (it was dark already) I have no idea how she thought we were supposed to find McDonalds. On top of trying to find McDonalds, Emma Kathryn is screaming, Papa is having a duck because she is screaming, Granny is rattling talking to EK trying to calm her down, Mom is calling a million times trying to get us to McDonalds, Lindsey is trying to talk to mom and at this point Micah and I are laughing. I have never been so glad to see our condo in my entire life. We arrived here at about 11:30 pm.

Day 2/Sunday: Beach
The weather was beautiful. We went to the beach early and set up our tent and chairs. We put a poneytail in Emma Kathryn's hair for the first time. It looked pretty funny.
After breakfast we went to the beach and Mom stayed inside with Emma Kathryn. We all got a bit too much sun. The wind was blowing and we never got hot so we all got burned. Mom brought Emma Kathryn to the beach that afternoon and we kept her under the tent. She loved it. She fell asleep on the beach and slept a while. She loved watching the people and birds.
For supper we met my cousin Brian Wallace. He is working here so we called and had supper with him. It was nice to get to spend time with him.
Day 3/Monday: Pool
We stayed in a while today because we all were a bit red from the day before. We took Emma Kathryn to the pool in the afternoon. She is a water duck. She loved it.
It started raining so we came inside and got ready for supper. We went to Barefoot Landing with intentions of eating at Joe's Crab Shack but the wait time was forever so we went to the Fire Island Grill instead. On our walk from the Crab Shack to the Grill started raining again so we didn't get to do much shopping. We did get to stop in the Christmas shop. We bought Emma Kathryn her first Christmas Ornament. I picked out a snowbaby ornament that is a snowbaby holding a baby angel. It is very cute. Our supper at the Grill was good but Emma Kathryn was tired and fussy.
I had to take her back outside while we waited on our food and get her to sleep. Thankfully she was exhausted and they had rockers outside the restaurant so it didn't take long for her to give up.

Pop's Girl

For the past several months we have been eating supper every Monday night with my dad. We alternate eating at his house and then our house. I really enjoy eating with them. I am guilty of not visiting him as often as I should and this keeps that from happening. Emma Kathryn enjoys visiting "Pop" as much as I do. This pic was taken last Monday when we ate at his house. They both fell asleep in the recliner.
She has also learned to roll over. She gets from her stomach to her back with no problem. She can also go from back to belly but it is more of a struggle. I know that as much as she likes to move around before long this will be her mode of transportation. She hasn't figured out that she can roll to where she wants to go. I am sure it will not be long until she is in to everything.

Golf Cart

When we found out we were having a girl Micah was excited but he really wanted a boy. I knew he was happy with a girl but the entire pregnancy he hoped the ultrasound was a mistake and we were having a boy. Much of this was just to aggravate me but deep inside he really wanted a boy, not girl. He thought that a he wouldn't be able to do much with a girl because she would like playing dress up and nothing else. As the pic below shows, he was very wrong. Needless to say she has him wrapped around her finger.
They ride the golf cart almost every morning and every night. I think she would ride for hours. Sometimes I ride with them but when I don't he straps on the car seat and off they go. It kills me that my child who usually screams from "click" (see prior post) never whimpers when strapped on the golf cart. I told Micah maybe we should drive the golf cart to Myrtle Beach next week. He didn't think that was such a good idea.

4 Months

I can't believe Emma Kathryn is already 4 months old. We went to the doc on Thursday and he said she was great. She weighed 12 lbs 10 oz and was
24 1/2 inches long. She has started "talking" all the time. She even talks herself to sleep now. It's hilarious. She hasn't rolled completely over yet but she tries her hardest. She can get from her back to side with no problem but she gets stuck on her arm and can't figure out how to get over the rest of the way.
Her shots Thursday were bad. She didn't scream or fuss any more than usual but Friday she had fever all day. It was so pitiful. I could tell she didn't feel good because she just laid her head on my shoulder and didn't move or look around. Anyone who has held Emma Kathryn knows this is very unusual for her. She had been much better today so I hope the fever is over.

Toes

Emma Kathryn has discovered her toes. For the last several days she has unsuccessfully tried to get them to her mouth. She tried to grab them and pull them to her mouth which didn't work.

After several days of failure she decided to go with plan B. Instead of pulling them to her mouth she decided to take her mouth to them.

Victory must taste really sweet.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Independence Day!!

Hello

Well, once again it's been a while. You would think that since I am a stay at home mom I would have time to blog. Not the case, if I wanted a break I should have kept working. Since my last blog I have canned squash, tomatoes, sweet pickle relish, dill pickles and have frozen squash, okra, and peppers. The garden and my little one have kept me very busy but with rewarding work. Needless to say I love my "job" and wouldn't trade it for the world.
Emma Kathryn is doing great. She has discovered her feet and wants nothing more than to get them to her mouth. She also has started trying to hold her bottle. She does a pretty good job of it too. As I type she is laying on her boppy holding her bottle and drinking her milk. I have finally got her on an eating schedule and she is also on a somewhat sleeping schedule. She eats every 3 hours about 4 1/2 oz and she sleeps from about 9:00 pm until 7:00 am waking around 12 and 6 to eat. It is so nice when she wakes up at 7:00 because now instead of screaming she wakes up smiling and "talking." I have been trying to get her to sleep in her bed but have been unsuccessful. Usually as soon as I lay her down she wakes up screaming and she doesn't stop until we pick her up. I know all the books say let them "cry it out" but my baby doesn't stop. For example: the car seat, she hates. A few weeks ago I went with my mom to Birmingham to drop of my Granny at my Aunts house. When we left she started crying and she didn't stop until we turned in my driveway and I got her out of her seat. She has also screamed from Tuscaloosa all the way home numerous times. My cousin Caleb went to Fayette with us yesterday and he said she needed a volume button before she blew a gasket.
We have a beach trip planned for the end of the month and I can't wait. We are going with Mom and Coach. I hope Emma Kathryn likes it. We had planned to go to Orange Beach but thanks to BP we are now going to Myrtle Beach. I am sure it will be an interesting 1o hour drive with a screaming munchkin but oh well. A week at the beach will be worth it. She enjoys watching TV and we have a borrowed DVD player for the car so I pray it will be an ear saver.
She is finished with her bottle so its time to rock her to sleep. Happy blogging until next time.
